In deference to his wife, Sarah, John Marble persuaded the ATIS Board to introduce some slower-paced, adults only hikes into the 1984 summer schedule. The ATIS Adult Program began modestly, with just three trips run exclusively for adults during that summer and has bourgeoned into a program that most summers offers excursions everyday of the week during July and August.

Volunteers are invited and recruited (we welcome folks to step forward anytime!) to lead expeditions to one of their favorite destinations, while interested adults are asked to contact the leader to get instructions on where to meet and what to bring. Past trips have included everything from dinner on the shores of a beautiful lake to the ascent of a 46er, with short hikes to waterfalls or easy paddles downstream in between.

If you would like to volunteer to lead an Adult Program trip please contact Joanna Smith at jsmithlpc@gmail.com.

Important Adult Program Reminders:
  • The Adult Program Calendar evolves throughout the season. Trips are added (and sometimes removed), and details/times are occasionally updated. Please check the version available on the website (click the green link at the top of this page) for the latest-and-greatest copy. The version on the ATIS bulletin board may be outdated.
  • You should sign up for trips at least 24 hours before the trip is scheduled to take place.
  • If you sign up and then can't go, you should cancel by 5:00pm the day before the trip.
  • You should always contact the leader by 5:00pm the day before the trip to verify it's on and to confirm plans.
  • If no one signs up, the trip is automatically cancelled.
